• Deadline date for FCA's preliminary entry form for Indoor Worlds is January 03
• The new 2002 FCA rules books are available through the FCA office. The new, bigger format should make for easier reading. Each book with binder costs $19.95 plus taxes, shipping and handling.
• FCA is seeking a host club for the 2004 outdoor/3D nationals
• Canada Games 2003: all coaches must be fully certified level 3
• Qualification period for the 2004 Athens Olympic Games Archery is July 13, 2003 to July 21, 2004

3. Canada Cup 2003 LAST CALL

FCA is accepting club bids to host the 2003 Canada Cup. FCA has received 2 bids so far. Only those clubs located in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia may apply. The cost is $42.80 per round to register the tournament with FITA. There is no cost for elimination rounds.

Send your application with rounds offered, dates, registration information, accommodation listing and other pertinent details to the FCA national office. Thank you.

3. Le Tournois de Coupe Canada 2003 RAPPEL FINAL

La FCA accept les candidatures des clubs pour tenir le tournois de Coupe Canada 2003. La FCA a reçu deux offres. Seulement ceux situés en Columbie-Britannique, en Alberta, en Saskatchewan ou au Manitoba peuvent envoyer les offres. Les frais d'inscription sont de 42,80$ par ronde pour homologuer le tounois à la FITA. Il n'y a pas de frais pour les rondes éliminatories.

Envoyez votre application avec les rondes offertes, les dates, les informations d'inscription, la liste de l'hébergement ainsi que les autres détails au bureau national de la FCA. Merci.

4. FCA Indoor Rules - notice from Greg Durward Rulebook Editor

We had our first Indoor FITA this weekend and there was considerable confusion due to people’s unfamiliarity with the new rules – even with the Judges. I expect that many judges are unaware of the new Indoor scoring and target sizes. Perhaps it would be a good idea to flag this in this week’s bulletin and maybe reprint the chart showing this from the rulebook.

It should also be noted (it is on the web site errata page) that the rule book editor missed the Chapter 4 reference to target sizes.

4.5.2.3 should say "The 18-metre FITA Indoor Round consists of sixty (60) arrows on 40cm diameter faces or triple faces for all classes except that the 60cm target face will be used by all divisions in the Pre-Cub class and by the following divisions in the Cub class: Recurve, Barebow, ARW1, ARW2 and ARST."

Great news. It seems like the inquiries have paid off. We have been in discussions with Sport Canada since you got your rejection letter and this weekend at the conference (Secretary of State for Amateur Sport ) DeViller announced $100,000 for translation of coaching documents related to the transition. We don't have definitive confirmation that it is this fiscal year...but the word is that the funding will be available immediately. I will contact you immediately when I know more, which should be in the next day or two.

Ed: Pendant le 18-24 mois passé, la FCA essaie d'acquérir les subventions gouvernementales pour traduire notre nouveau livre du niveau 3. La résponsable de l'ACE, Mme. Cyndie Flett nous a confirmé que le Sécretaire du Sport va ajouter plus de 100.000$ aux sports qui ont besoin de traduire leurs documents des entraîneurs de CBET. Enfin, après toutes les batailles, nous avons gagné. M. Al Wills a rémercié à Kathy Millar pour tous ses efforts.

8. Sad News / Nouvelles Tristes (uniquement en anglais)

FCA regrets to announce the passing of long time archer and builder in BC, Wayne Seney. Wayne was a Barebow shooter in the late 60's/early 70s attending and winning medals in many Canadian Championships. He shot professionally throughout the seventies and won many Canadian Championship medals. He took a hiatus touring with his motorcycle and sailing. He came back into archery 5 or so years ago and gave of himself fully. He taught archery and repaired equipment and shot at the Provincial level. He worked hard for our sport and will be missed.

FCA also regrets to announce the death of a builder of FCA, Peter Halbig. Peter was a member of many FCA Boards usually filling the Bowhunting Director position. Peter founded the FCA Big Game awards and worked hard for special Bowhunting seasons both in BC and Nationally. Peter also gained many championship titles in target and was one of the first certified coaches in Canada. He worked for FCA and BCAA for many years, always enjoying hunting above all else.
