5. Attention: National Judges and National Judge
Candidates!
The FCA judge committee chairperson now is accepting applications from qualified judges wishing to participate in the next Canadian Target & Field Championships that will be held in Delise, Saskatchewan from August 11 to 18.
All judge applicants will be considered, not only on experience, but also from the perspective of the development of Canadian archery. There will be a certain amount of FCA financial support (to be defined) to defray travel costs. This financial assistance is limited, and judges are urged to seek additional support form their provincial associations. In the past, judges also received a per diem, accommodation (double occupancy) and local transport.
FCA will be organizing a national judge seminar on the Thursday and Friday preceding the Field Championships. Provincial level judges, and in particular those judges from central Canada, as well as national judge candidates are encouraged to attend. All other judges can use the seminar to refresh their knowledge and challenge their thinking. The seminar costs $40.00. Seminar candidates will be offered the chance to judge during the tournament under the supervision of a senior judge or mentor.
All interested judges must fill out the application form below and send it directly to the address indicated. The deadline date for applications is February 28, 2002.

7. FCA Rule changes
(uniquement en anglais)
The Rules for board approval are at:
Rule changes (not including mere wording changes) from the 2000 edition of the Rulebook are underlined to assist judges and archers to see what may be different from their previous version. To assist the Board in reviewing changes, yellow highlight has been used to indicate those changes which have not formally been approved already by the board in the two Board votes since the publishing of the 2000 Rulebook. The yellow highlighted changes include the new age and distance rules that have been approved in different form by the Board and the changes FITA has made. Included in the changes are:
a. Changes to Barebow (Arrow rest, lip and nose marks, stabilizer rules, restrictions on tab markings). See 7.3.6.
b. FITA dress code changes have been incorporated for Canadian Champion- ships.3.1.18 and 2.2.12.
c. Rewording of age classes 4.2.3.
d. Added in the front of the Rulebook:
" In the case of any question concerning a rule in this Rulebook arising from editing errors or from differences between the French and English language versions, reference will be made to the original form in which the FCA Board of Directors approved the rule."
There are many other changes and Board members should look through the document and make sure all yellow highlighted changes that apply to Canadian archery are acceptable. Please direct questions or concerns to Greg Durward

History of archery (uniquement en anglais)
My Question: I was recently discussing the incident, in which William Tell shot an arrow at an apple on his son's head, with a young boy who is learning archery. I know there is a name for this kind of ritual punishment that existed in the 12th and 13th centuries, but I can not locate any information on it. Do you, by chance, happen to know what this is called?
Mr. Carmichael's answer: Sure - ORDEAL. You might also use Judicium Dei. Trial by fire is one "ordeal". Witches experienced the ordeal of water. The intent of an ordeal is the unfortunately-not-only-medieval notion that God will always intervene to uphold the innocent.
