Greetings/Bonjour
It is with deep sadness that I announce to you the passing of a Canadian archery legend. Otto Lehmacher passed away peacefully in his sleep Saturday night, July 20, 2002.
Otto was a fine archer, setting numerous records in Ontario and Canada. He represented Canada as an athlete, a coach, a manager and a judge. He was a national champion and received the first FITA Star awarded in Canada. He was appointed Field Manager at the 1976 Olympics.
Otto will be remembered most fondly as the tireless worker at many Canadian Championships in Caledon. The 'Golden Hammer' that is given to each national outdoor championship Organising Committee was instituted by Otto in 1975. That gesture has become one of the few recognizable traditions in Canadian archery, symbolizing the physical work involved, but also the fellowship that grows when clubs host The Nationals.
Otto had a tradition of using a shotgun to start the field rounds. Who will forget the time someone brought a dead goose to the target range and then threw it over Otto after he had fired the shotgun!!
Otto was a proud man. He served Canada well and was a tireless archery worker. He is missed! FCA sends condolences to his many friends and family, and in particular to Honor Lemacher.

It is with regret I have to inform you that one of the founding members of The Archers of Caledon pass on this weekend. Otto Lehmacker was one of the major players in building the club's original clubhouse in the 1960's. He was also instrumental in building the club's current clubhouse after a fire that destroyed the original facility in 1978. Otto left us the legacy of one of the best archery facilities in Canada. Although he has not been active in the club for past few years, he has kept in touch with many of the original members of the Caledon Club.
Many of the current members of the club will never have had the opportunity to meet Otto, but we all enjoy the facility he helped build for the archery community. Archers across the country knew Otto and have many fond memories of his involvement in archery.

1. Nouveaux records du monde
Marie-Pier Beaudet a participé au NY State Outdoor Chamionship les 20 et 21 juillet derniers à Fulton NY. Durant ce tournoi elle tiré 326 à 60 mètres, 324 à 50 mètres pour compléter sa FITA Star avec un total de 1296. Ces trois résultats font actuellement l'objet d'une demande de reconnaissnce de record du monde dans la catégorie femme cadet recurve.

Marie-Pier Beaudet attended the NY State Outdoor Championship, Fulton NY on July 20-21. During that FITA Star, she shot 326 at 60 meters, 324 at 50 meters for a FITA Star total of 1296. These three scores have been submitted as new world records in the female cadet recurve division.

3. Join the Board of Directors of Athletes CAN
Are you looking for a challenging yet rewarding experience? Do you have an interest in Canadian amateur sport? Are you enthusiastic, talented and committed to improving sport in Canada? If so, you may just be the person we are looking for! Athletes CAN is inviting all interested persons to highlight your enthusiasm, talents, commitment and passion in the form of a nomination for our Board of Directors. Five positions will be up for election at our 2002 Athletes Forum, September 27-29. The Nomination Application form is available online at: www.athletescan.com
Who is eligible?
All current national team athletes, designated national team athlete reps, and former national team athletes retired no more than 8 years are eligible to run for a Board position with Athletes CAN. Nominees are expected to be present at the election at the Athletes CAN Annual General Meeting, September 28, 2002.
What does a Board Member do?
As a not-for-profit corporation representing National Team Athletes in Canada, each Athletes CAN Board Member is expected to be accountable to the members of Athletes CAN. Each Board Member is involved in all aspects of the management and governance of Athletes CAN and participates in the life and development of the organization.
How do Board Members contribute to Athletes CAN?
The following expectations have been identified for board members:
1. Attend Board meetings, whether they are conference call or in person. If it is not possible to attend, advance notice must be given to the Chairperson and/or Secretary so that alternate arrangements for input can be made.
2. Be prepared for meetings. This includes a full written report on the director’s area(s) of responsibility so that the report can be circulated with the agenda – specifically, Board members are expected to inform Athletes CAN regarding
a. any issues arising in the areas, committees and/or organizations for which they are responsible so that the Athletes CAN Board may develop informed positions, responses etc.;
b. and the status of projects for which a director is responsible
3. Submit written reports and all information pertinent to the agenda, or request that an item of business be on the agenda, before the relevant Board meeting. This will enable the executive to ensure that the agenda and supporting materials are mailed to the directors in advance of meetings. Board members should expect to spend an average of two hours per week on Athletes CAN business in addition to attendance at Board meetings (three to four times per year), monthly Board conference calls, committee meetings and the Annual Athletes CAN Forum.
4. Coordinate and work on committees within Athletes CAN.
5. Act as a Representative of Athletes CAN (and Athletes) in their community.
6. Act as a mentor to amateur athletes.
How do I submit a nomination?
Interested applicants must complete the nomination form, including a 1 page resume and submit the nomination package to the Athletes CAN office by 5:00pm EST Monday, September 16, 2002. Applications will be accepted by fax, mail or email. All nominations, including resumes will be posted on our website and included in the Forum registration package. There will be a Call for Nominations from the floor at the Annual General Meeting on Saturday, September 28, 2002; however we encourage all interest applicants to submit their nomination applications by the September 16th deadline. Applications submitted after the 16th of September or from the floor will not be available for review by your peers on our website nor in the Forum registration package.
When does the election take place?
Commencing Saturday September 28th, 2002 at the Athletes CAN Annual General Meeting, an election to fill vacant Board positions will be held. Nominees are expected to be present at the election. Nominees will have the opportunity to speak for two minutes before the elections. Complete information on the election procedures will be included with your registration package.

Êtes-vous à la recherche d’un défi? Est-ce que le sport amateur canadien vous intéresse? Êtes-vous enthousiaste, talentueux(se) et déterminé(e) à améliorer le sport au Canada? Si oui, vous pourriez bien être la personne que nous cherchons! Athlètes CAN invite toutes les personnes intéressées à démontrer leur enthousiasme, leurs talents, leur engagement et leur passion en se présentant aux élections de notre conseil d’administration. Des élections auront lieu au Forum des athlètes 2002, du 27 au 29 septembre, pour combler cinq postes dont le mandat s’achève. Qui est éligible?

Quelles sont les fonctions d’un membre du conseil?
Athlètes CAN est un organisme à but non-lucratif qui représente les athlètes de l’équipe nationale canadienne. Chacun des membres de son conseil d’administration doit donc être responsable envers les membres d’Athlètes CAN. Ils doivent également s’impliquer à tous les niveaux de la gestion et de la gouvernance d’Athlètes CAN et participer à la vie et au développement de l’organisation.
Quelles contributions les membres du conseil d’administration apportent-ils à Athlètes CAN?
Nous avons identifié les attentes suivantes:
1. Participer aux réunions du conseil, par appel-conférence ou en personne. Si le membre ne peut pas participer, il/elle doit en aviser le(la) président(e) et/ou secrétaire à l’avance afin que l’on puisse prendre d’autres dispositions pour obtenir ses commentaires.
2. Être préparé(e) pour les réunions. Cela implique la rédaction d’un rapport complet concernant le domaine de responsabilité de l’administrateur(trice) afin d’être en mesure de le distribuer avec l’ordre du jour – plus spécifiquement, les membres du conseil d’administration doivent informer Athlètes CAN de :
a. Tout problème existant dans les domaines, comités et/ou organisations pour lesquels ils sont responsables afin de permettre au conseil d’Athlètes CAN de développer des positions, réponses, etc. en connaissance de cause;
b. L’avancement des projets pour lesquels ils sont responsables.
3. Remettre les rapports écrits et toute information pertinente pour l’ordre du jour, ou demander qu’un point soit ajouté à l’ordre du jour, avant la réunion en question. Ceci permettra à la direction de s’assurer que l’ordre du jour et les documents d’accompagnement sont postés aux administrateurs avant les réunions. Les membres du conseil d’administration doivent s’attendre à consacrer en moyenne deux heures par semaine aux affaires d’Athlètes CAN en plus des réunions du conseil (trois à quatre fois par année), des appels-conférences mensuels du conseil, des réunions des comités et du Forum annuel d’Athlètes CAN.
4. Coordonner et collaborer avec les comités d’Athlètes CAN.
5. Agir à titre de représentant(e) d’Athlètes CAN (et des athlètes) dans sa communauté.
6. Être un mentor auprès des athlètes amateurs.
Comment puis-je poser ma candidature?
Les candidats intéressés doivent remplir le formulaire de mise en candidature et l’envoyer, accompagné d’un curriculum vitae d’une page, au bureau d’Athlètes CAN lundi le 16 septembre 2002 à 5:00 pm HDE au plus tard. Les demandes envoyées par fax, courrier ou courriel seront acceptées. Toutes les candidatures, incluant les curriculum vitae, seront publiées sur notre site web et feront partie du cartable d’inscription du Forum. Il y aura un appel aux candidatures sur place lors de l’assemblée générale annuelle, samedi le 28 septembre 2002. Mais nous encourageons les candidats intéressés à poser leur candidature avant le 16 septembre. Les candidatures reçues après le 16 septembre ou sur place ne pourront pas être consultées par vos confrères et consœurs sur le site web et ne seront pas publiées dans le cartable d’inscription du Forum.
Quand auront lieu les élections?
Les élections pour combler les postes vacants du conseil d’administration auront lieu lors de l’assemblée générale annuelle d’Athlètes CAN, samedi le 28 septembre 2002. Les candidats devraient être présents pendant les élections. Ils auront la chance de s’adresser au public pendant deux minutes, avant les élections.
