 1. OAA Director resigns

I have recently started a new job, making it difficult for me to meet my commitments as the OAA Director.  My job requires that I be out of the country most of the time.  I tried to balance my commitments through the last few months but found it was not possible.  In February I will be leaving again for 2 months, so I would like to inform you all of my intention to resign as OAA Director effective January 31, 2002.  Until then I hope to clear up any remaining items.  Still hope to see you all on the archery range.Eric Savage

Carol Rohringer, long-time FCA Secretary has just advised FCA that Ray Crawford died April 4, 2001 in Manitoba.  Mr. Crawford was a committed FCA volunteer and a former president.  No further details are available at this time.

3. 2002 International Olympic Academy (IOA) Participation

 This year, the COA plans to send up to two (2) delegates to the 42nd International Session for Young Participants (General Session) (contact the FCA national office).  The General Session is for two weeks this July-August and is open only to participants between the ages of 20 and 35 at the time of the Session (IOA rule). The main topic of the General Session is Olympism and the special topic is The Cultural Olympiads and the Olympic Movement.  The candidates must have a basic understanding of Olympism and be involved in some “Olympic” capacity.

If you wish to be considered, please send the COA the application form and all relevant material.  Also, please feel free to forward this application to others who may be interested in applying.  Applications should be sent to the COA’s Ottawa Office, c/o Bea Teske, by February 22nd.  Selections will be made shortly thereafter and the successful candidate(s) will be notified by March 22nd.  Delegates will be required to provide their own transportation to Toronto or Montreal (the Canadian departure points for Olympic Airways flights to Greece).  The delegates will also be responsible for any expenses incurred in Athens prior to the official start and after the official end of the Session.

There is an expectation that Canadian delegates to the IOA will maintain (and increase) their active involvement in the Olympic Movement in Canada.  Additionally, Canadian delegates will be required to write a report about their experience at the IOA and write articles for the COA newsletter and website.

Participation à l’Académie internationale olympique (AIO) de 2002

 L’AOC prévoit envoyer cette année jusqu’à deux (2) délégués à la 42e Session internationale pour jeunes participants (Session générale) (contactez le bureau national de la FCA).  L'Assemblée générale se déroulera pendant deux semaines en juillet-août prochains, et seules les personnes qui ont entre 20 et 35 ans peuvent y participer (règlement de l'AIO).  Le thème principal est L’Olympisme et le thème spécial est Les Olympiades culturelles et le Mouvement olympique.  Les candidat(e)s doivent avoir une connaissance générale de l’Olympisme et être engagé(e)s dans une activité à caractère « olympique ».

 Pour poser votre candidature, vous devez faire parvenir le formulaire de candidature ainsi que toute la documentation pertinente au bureau de l’AOC à Ottawa, à l’attention de Bea Teske, avant le 22 février.  Nous vous invitons par ailleurs à transmettre le formulaire à toute autre personne qui pourrait être intéressée à poser sa candidature.  La sélection sera effectuée peu après et les personnes dont la candidature sera retenue seront informées de la décision avant le 22 mars.  Les délégués devront se rendre à Toronto ou à Montréal par leurs propres moyens (points de départ du Canada des vols de Olympic Airways à destination de la Grèce).  De plus, les délégués devront assumer eux-mêmes toutes leurs dépenses à Athènes avant l’ouverture officielle et après la clôture officielle de la séance.

 Nous nous attendons à ce que les délégués du Canada à l’AIO poursuivent (ou même renforcent) leur engagement actif au sein du Mouvement olympique au Canada.  De plus, ils devront à l’issue de l’AIO rédiger un compte rendu de leur expérience ainsi que des articles pour diffusion dans le bulletin et le site Internet de l’AOC.

 5. 2002 FCA 3D Championships

The AANS web page will be the location for all information pertaining to the 3D Championships and this will up and running in February.  Registrations can be undertaken by simply printing a copy of the registration form from the web site and mailing the required fees to the address on the form.  All updates will be located here.  We will have the host hotel, car rental agency, campgrounds and local B&B's available for the event in March and registrants will be required to book directly with the desired establishment.

 7. Play Your Part In Recognizing Dedication And Achievement

The Breakthrough Awards are presented annually to outstanding nominees who have used innovative ideas and alternative approaches to encourage and enable more girls and women to participate/lead/coach in sport and physical activity.   This year we are adding a new level of awards in some of the categories to recognize nominees who have had an impact at the provincial and/or community level.

 CAAWS offers Breakthrough Awards in five categories:

The NIKE YOUTH ACHIEVEMENT Award recognizing an outstanding female (under 18 as of December 2001) who has taken an active role in encouraging more girls and women to participate in sport and physical activity.

An INDIVIDUAL whose accomplishments have pushed the limits and enhanced the participation of girls and women. (National and Provincial/Community Level)

A member of the MEDIA who has increased the profile and awareness of the achievements, abilities, and potential of girls and women. (National and Provincial/Community Level)

An ORGANIZATION who has provided funds or services to enable fuller participation by girls and women in sport and physical activity. (National and Provincial/Community Level)

An individual, group or organization whose long term activities and achievements directly affected, improved, or positively influenced girls and women in sport and physical activity will receive the MARION LAY HERSTORICAL Award.

Other than the Marion Lay Herstorical award, the nominations should be based on accomplishments in the year 2001.  Posthumous nominations may be received in the year in which the person has died.  Please complete the nomination form and provide detailed background information on the nominee supporting the nomination and listing her or his accomplishments in a maximum of three (3) pages, available on CAAWS web site www.caaws.ca.  The nomination form and background information should be submitted by Thursday, January 17, 2002 to the CAAWS office by mail, email or fax.

Prix De La Percée «Les Femmes et Le Sport» 2002 De L'ACAFS

Les Prix de la percée sont présentés annuellement à des personnes ayant utilisé des idées innovatrices et des approches différentes pour encourager un plus grand nombre de filles et de femmes à participer dans le domaine du sport et de l'activité physique et à faire preuve de leadership. Nous innovons cette année en créant un autre niveau de prix afin de reconnaître les personnes qui ont eu un impact sur le plan provincial et/ou communautaire.

L'ACAFS présente des Prix de la percée dans cinq catégories:

Le prix JEUNESSE NIKE qui reconnaît un jeune Canadien ou une jeune Canadienne (moins de 18 ans en décembre 2001) qui a joué un rôle clé afin d'accroître la participation des filles et des femmes au sport et à l'activité physique.

Un INDIVIDU dont les réalisations ont permis de repousser les limites et d'améliorer la participation des filles et des femmes dans le monde du sport. (Prix national et provincial/communautaire)

·Un membre des MÉDIAS qui a fait davantage connaître les réalisations, les

habiletés et le potentiel des filles et des femmes. (Prix national et

provincial/communautaire)

Un ORGANISME qui a alloué des fonds ou offert ses services en vue de permettre une plus grande participation des filles et des femmes au sport et à l'activité physique. (Prix national et provincial/communautaire)

Une personne, un groupe ou un organisme dont la contribution et les réalisations à long terme ont eu un effet direct, ont amélioré ou influencé de façon positive les filles et les femmes qui font du sport et de l'activité recevra le prix HISTORIQUE MARION LAY.

Outre le prix Historique Marion Lay, la candidature doit être fondée sur les réalisations de l'année 2001. Les candidatures à titre posthume sont acceptées au cours de l'année du décès du candidat ou de la candidate.

Veuillez remplir le formulaire de candidature et fournir de l'information appuyant la candidature et dressant la liste des réalisations du candidat ou de la candidate. Longueur maximum : trois (3) pages.  Faites parvenir le formulaire de mise en candidature et la documentation connexe aux bureaux de l'ACAFS par la poste, par télécopieur ou par courriel avant le jeudi 17 janvier 2002.
