Greg Durward has the preliminary results for the FCA indoor championships posted on the web site. If you notice errors or omissions, contact your Site Director, not Greg Durward. You have until March 12 to file an appeal.
Thank you to the following clubs that have sent in their payments already for the national indoors. You people are super! This year 550 archers registered for the event.

MARCH 2001 FEATURE DEVELOPING THE NEXT GENERATION OF WOMEN COACHES
Sport in Canada is in transition as growing numbers of girls and women claim their rightful places as participants and competitors. By the end of the 20th century, women athletes accounted for 47 per cent of athletes on our national teams, a quantum leap by any standard. This growth is laudable; however, if taken as an indication that all is well from a gender equity standpoint, the statistic is misleading. Nowhere is the problem more evident than in coaching.
The Canadian Journal for Women in Coaching turned to former national coach Dru Marshall and asked her to suggest strategies to help develop the next generation of women coaches. The result is Developing the Next Generation of Women Coaches, a thoughtful, provocative, and personal examination of what can and should be done.

Sport Canada est en transition alors que de plus en plus de filles et de femmes réclament leur juste place comme participantes et compétitrices. À la fin du XXe siècle, les athlètes féminines représentaient 47 p. 100 du nombre total des athlètes sur les équipes nationales du Canada, ce qui représente un progrès considérable et un effort des plus louables. Cependant, ces statistiques ne veulent rien dire dans d'autres secteurs du sport au chapitre de l'égalité des sexes. L'existence du problème est plus qu'évidente dans le domaine de la formation des entraîneures.
Le Journal canadien des entraîneures a demandé à Dru Marshall, ancienne entraîneure nationale, de suggérer des stratégies qui pourraient aider à former la prochaine génération d'entraîneures. ´La formation de la prochaine génération d'entraîneuresª en est le résultat : un examen réfléchi, personnel et provocateur de ce qui doit et devrait être fait.

Mark your Calendars! The 10th annual International Coaching School (August 18 - 26) will present a variety of educational opportunities for coaches, athletes, and administrators. Once again we are fortunate to be able to host the ICS on campus at the University of Victoria. This year's Summit (August 18 and 19) will focus on the practical and technical components of coaching with respected researchers Joan Vickers, University of Calgary, and Anders Ericsson, Florida State University. National team coaches Tim Frick, wheelchair basketball, and David Dew, soccer, will also be on hand to answer practical coaching questions.

7. IOC and Toronto/CIO et Toronto

You have all probably read that the International Olympic Committee Evaluation Committee is in Toronto this week to make a judgement about Toronto's ability to host the 2008 summer Olympics.
The archery venue will be about 300 yards from the main Olympic stadium and 400 yards from the Olympic village. Quite an excellent location right in the middle of the main action. In fact, all sports except two will have their finals held within a six-kilometer range along the waterfront. Equestrian events will be north of the city and boxing will be held in Hamilton - at their request. Sports will be grouped into three locations: in the dock lands area at the east-end of the Toronto harbour; in the main downtown core at the Sky Dome and the Metro Convention Centre; and in the west at Ontario Place and the Exhibition Centre. It's a superb technical bid and if that's what they vote on, then we'll get the Games.
On March 8th Rob Rusnov, Shawn Riggs and I had lunch with the Evaluation Commission at the CN Tower (along with about 75 other athletes and sport people). An Evaluation Commission member was at each table giving us all a chance to talk with them and tell them about Toronto and our sport. After lunch Rob went to the Sky Dome where the Commission would meet later in the afternoon to view models and information about each sport venue. Each sport had a Sydney 2000 athlete with their display to answer any questions the Commission members might have.
The Commission will be in Toronto until Sunday. They have already visited Beijing and Osaka and will visit Paris and Istanbul in the next several weeks. They will produce a report, which will be published in May, and the final vote will take place in Moscow on July 13th.
There is a big article on the Ontario Spring Classic in this issue of US and International Archer. Job well done, Gary and crew. You might have even more top archers register this year.
Sad news from FITA today:
We have been informed that Mr. Vadim Shirkarev, KAZ has passed away in tragic circumstances. He was a three-time Olympian and placed second in the 1991 World Championships. Most recently, he placed 10th in Sydney.
The FCA office will be open March 12-16 from 07:30 to 15:30 EST daily.

On peut lire dans le nouveau bulletin "US and International Archer" un article d'intérêt général du tournois Ontario Spring Classic. Bravo, Gary et ton équipe. Peut-être, il y aura encore des archers de niveau international cette année.
Les nouvelles tristes de la FITA:
Nous avons également été informées du tragique décès de M.Vadim Shikarev, KAZ qui a été médaillé Olympique à 3 reprises et fut 2e en 1991 lors des Championnats du Monde. Tout dernièrement il avait obtenu un 10 à Syndey.
Le bureau national sera ouvert du 12 au 16 mars, 07h30 à 15h30 HdL.
