Good luck to our FITA World Target Team. Some members have left Canada already. Opening Ceremonies will be held on Saturday, September 15 and shooting begins the next day. If you wish to send messages of support to the team, please forward them to the FCA national office.

3. Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport ADVISORY NOTE

(Ottawa September 5, 2001) Further to our Advisory Note of June 11, 2001, the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) would like to provide the Canadian sport community with an update regarding the International Olympic Committee (IOC) List of Prohibited Classes of Substances and Prohibited Methods. The new list of prohibited substances and methods recently released by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in collaboration with the IOC came into effect September 1, 2001. The following is a summary of the significant changes, which have been made to the IOC's 2001-2002 list:
1. Inhaled formoterol is now permitted with prior notification. The Canadian brand names for formoterol are Oxeze Turbuhaler and Foradil by inhalation. Therefore athletes should be aware that inhaled formoterol, salmeterol and salbutamol and terbutaline (beta 2 agonists) are permitted with prior notification.
2. An additional requirement has been added for athletes who seek authorization to use asthma medications containing beta 2 agonists during the Olympic Games. These athletes will now be required to submit clinical proof to an IOC medical review panel and may be subject to an on-site assessment to substantiate their ailment/condition and need for beta 2 agonists.
3. Glucocorticosteroids administered by local or intra-articular injection remain permitted, but International Federations may require written notification of use of these substances.
4. Inhibitors of aromatase are now prohibited in males. These agents are reputedly taken to counter the side-effects (aromatization to estrogens leading to gynecomastia) of androgenic anabolic steroids.
5. Bupropion has been added to the banned class of stimulants.

(Ottawa le 5 septembre 2001) Le Centre canadien pour l'éthique dans le sport désire informer la collectivité sportive canadienne d'une mise à jour de la Liste des catégories de substances et des méthodes interdites du Comité international olympique (CIO). L'Agence mondiale antidopage (AMA), en collaboration avec le Comité international olympique (CIO), vient de publier une nouvelle liste des substances et méthodes interdites qui sera en vigueur du 1er septembre 2001. Voici un sommaire des changements importants apportés à la liste de 2001-2002 du CIO :
1. Le formoterol inhalé est dorénavant permis avec avis préalable. Au Canada, le formoterol est vendu sous les marques Oxeze Turbuhaler et Foradil par inhalation. Par conséquent, les athlètes doivent savoir que le formoterol, le salmeterol, le salbutamol et la terbutaline inhalés (agonistes beta 2) sont permis avec avis préalable.
2. Une exigence supplémentaire a été ajoutée pour les athlètes qui désirent obtenir l'autorisation de prendre des médicaments contenant des agonistes beta 2 pour le traitement de l'asthme pendant les Jeux olympiques. Ces athlètes devront dorénavant fournir une preuve clinique à un comité médical du CIO et pourraient être tenus de subir un examen sur place afin de confirmer leur état médical et justifier le besoin de prendre des agonistes beta 2.
3. Les glucocorticostéroïdes administrés par injection locale ou intra-articulaire demeurent permis mais les fédérations internationales se réservent le droit d'exiger un avis écrit concernant l'utilisation de ces substances.
4. Les inhibiteurs d'aromatase sont dorénavant interdits chez les individus de sexe masculin. Ces agents servent généralement à contrer les effets secondaires (aromatisation en oestrogènes entraînant la gynécomastie) des stéroïdes anabolisants androgènes.
5. Le bupropion a été ajouté à la catégorie des stimulants interdits.
La nouvelle liste est publiée sur le site Internet de l'AMA à www.wada-ama.org. Le CCES devrait être prêt à distribuer bientôt le livret de Classification des drogues de 2001-2002. Enfin / In Closing
FCA's Distribution Centre will re-open soon. Please be patient. This situation was beyond FCA's control. FCA regrets any inconvenience caused by the bankruptcy of the Canadian Sport & Fitness Administration Centre where our Distribution Centre was housed.
The FCA national office will be open next week September 10-14 from 07:30 - 15:30 EDT.
