Greetings/Bonjour
Two world cadet records in two weeks! Congratulations to Mr. Kevin Tataryn, Stonewall, MB, who set a new world cadet compound record of 343 at 70 meters during the Canadian Target Championships in Winnipeg this month. Congratulations to Ms. Marie-Pier Beaudet, Lévis, QC, who set a new world cadet recurve record of 316 at 50 meters at a FITA Star tournament in Québec last weekend. These performances provide inspiration for all of Canada's young archers.

During the national championships in Winnipeg, the following records were UNOFFICIALLY either tied or broken. Please review my list below. If you feel you have tied or broken a national open and/or championship record, please forward a copy of your score card within 60 days of the tournament to:

Deux nouveaux records mondiaux dans deux semaines! Félicitations à M. Kevin Tataryn de Stonewall, MB qui a tiré un nouveau record mondial cadet arc à poulie de 343 à 70 mètres ce mois pendant les championnats canadiens à Winnipeg. Félicitations à Mlle. Female Compound Cub Arc à Poulie femme:

Emerald Lemke, field 320 open & CC; tied total FITA 1274 CC; 60M 323 open & CC; 40M 321 CC.

Female Compound Master / Maître Arc à Poulie femme:

Jude Hooey, FITA total 1314 CC; 70M 325 CC; 30M 346 CC.

Female Compound Senior Arc à Poulie femme:

Lillian Meehan tied her own field record of 336.

Male Compound cadet Arc à Poulie homme:

Ryan Flannigan would have set a new open 50M record, but his score was beaten by:

Kevin Tataryn, 50M 343 CC & open; 70M 343 CC, open AND WORLD; and tied the 30M at 356.

Male Bowhunter Limited Senior Chasseur limité homme:

Garry Kenna tied his own open & CC 30M record with 354.

2. IPC World Championship Results

Alec Denys and Norbert Murphy were among 28 W2 archers competing in Nymburk, CZE at the IPC World Archery Championships. Alec came face-to-face with the same Korean archer he competed against in Sydney! The Korean set a new world record of 1266 (old record 1259) and 297 @ 90M (old record 294). This time, Alec finished 7th. He shot a new Canadian open record of 1214 and a 50M record of 311. Norbert finished 21st with a very good 140 on his elimination round. And, just as he did in Sydney, Norbert had to shoot a tie-breaker arrow. This time he shot a 9, only to be defeated by Czech Klick Jifi who shot a 10. Congratulations to both archers and their national team coach M. Arthur Nault!

Résultats de championnat mondial

Alec Denys et Norbert Murphy, 2 de 28 archers classifiés W2, ont tiré les championnats d'IPC à Nymburk, CZE. Alec, face-à-face avec le même Koréen de Sydney, a bien tiré. Le Koréen a brisé le record mondial FITA, 1266 et aussi de 90M, 297. Alec a brisé deux records nationaux de FITA, 1214 et aussi de 50M, 311. Il a resté 7ieme. Norbert, le 21ieme, a bien tiré le ronde éliminatoire avec 140, mais, il a tiré encore un égalité. Il faut tirer encore une flèche et il a perdu 10 à 9! Félicitations aux archers et aussi leur entraîneur d'équipe, M. Arthur Nault.

3. Winnipeg volunteers do it again

Congratulations and thanks go out to the small, but mighty band of Manitoba volunteers who ran all three national championships this year. Many participants appreciated your efforts. Thank you also to Mr. Bruce Savage who acted as Technical Delegate for target and field, and Mr. Don Lohnes who acted as Technical Delegate for 3D.

4. Les nouvelles tristes / sad news

Malheureusement, M. Sylvio Bouffard, un de nos archers élite, doit prendre sa rétraite comme tireur. Il a reçu une blessure de son coude en avril qui a terminé sa carrrière de la haute performance de tir à l'arc. On peut le contacter à:

Unfortunately, one of our top compound archers, Sylvio Bouffard, has been forced to retire from the sport of archery. He sustained an elbow injury this past April and it has affected both his shooting and his job. If you wish to contact him, please find the information listed above.

5. New Canadian Open Records - Nouveau record canadien ouvert

Cadet woman recurve-Fille cadet arc à recourbure: Marie-Pier Beaudet, Lévis, Qc.dans une FITA STAR 1440 avec un score de 298 à 70m, égalité de 334 à 30m

et un total de 1222 obtenu lors du New York State Archery Association Outdoor Tournament. 2001-08-11/12.

Senior man wheelchair-Homme sénior fauteuil roulant:Alec Denys, Aylmer ON in a FITA STAR 1440 with a score of 284 at 90m, 311 at 50m and a total of 1214 at the 3rd IPC World Archery Championships. 2001-07-27 to 2001-08-06.

Master man compound-Homme maitre arc démultipié: Greg Durward, Salt Spring Island BC.in a FITA STAR 1440 with a score of 1357 at the 117th US National Target Championships. 2001-08-1rst/2nd.

Master and Senior man compound limited-Homme maitre et sénior arc démultiplié limité: Ernest Skaar, Hagen SK in a FITA 1440 with a score of 301 at 90m, 303 at 50m, 345 at 30m. and a total of 1239. 2001-07-08 in FITA-Field 24-72 with a score of 306. 2001-06-06.

Master man compound- Maitre homme arc démultiplié: Camille Robert, Laval, QC. Dans une FITA STAR 1440 avec un score de 341 à 70mètres. 2001-07-28.

9. Experts wanted (English only)

The Islamic Republic of Iran is looking for an archery coach to conduct an Olympic Solidarity course in English from October 28 to November 11, 2001. FITA will pay airfare and per diem. The host country will pay hotel, meals and local transportation. For more information, or to apply, contact Pascal Colmaire by September 2.
