I was just browsing through the weekly news. I notice under the tournament listings that you have denoted our FITA Star of July 7 as the ABAM championships. It is only a FITA Star, the ABAM Outdoor Target Championships is scheduled for Aug. 25 FITA Star.

4. CCES

Please note that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has recently

notified all sport federations, national olympic committees and national anti-doping agencies that the recently announced 2001 IOC List of Prohibited Classes of Substances and Prohibited Methods has been retracted and replaced by the IOC 2000 List. The reinstatement of the IOC's 2000 List has been confirmed by both the IOC and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) therefore would like to inform the Canadian sport community that the reinstatement of the IOC 2000 List has implications for those athletes subject to doping control who are currently being prescribed medications for the treatment of asthma.

The IOC 2000 List is now in effect until further notice and provides for the

following:

1. Inhaled terbutaline (beta 2 agonist) remains in the category "permitted with prior notification". The Canadian brand name for terbutaline is Bricanyl Turbohaler.

2. Inhaled formoterol is banned. The Canadian brand names for formoterol are

Oxeze Turbuhaler and Foradil by inhalation.

Therefore athletes should be aware that only inhaled terbutaline, salmeterol

and salbutamol (beta 2 agonists) are permitted with prior notification.

The CCES is sensitive to the fact that this retraction has implications for athletes who have already been in contact with their physicians to make changes to their asthma medications to ensure that they would abide by the previously announced 2001 IOC List. The CCES has communicated its views to the international sport community concerning this unprecedented situation and is confident that the procedures / processes which are currently being reviewed by WADA and the IOC will ultimately lead to a better system.

Veuillez prendre note que le Comité international olympique (CIO) a récemment informé l'ensemble des fédérations de sport, des comités nationaux olympiques et des agences nationales antidopage que la Liste des catégories de substances et des méthodes interdites de 2001 du CIO a été supprimée et remplacée par la liste de 2000. Le rétablissement de la liste de 2000 du CIO a été confirmée par le CIO et l'Agence mondiale antidopage (AMA). Par conséquent, le Centre canadien sur l'éthique dans le sport (CCES) aimerait informer la collectivité sportive canadienne que le rétablissement de la liste de 2000 a des répercussions pour les athlètes assujettis au contrôle du dopage qui prennent des médicaments sous ordonnance pour l'asthme.

La liste de 2000 du CIO est en vigueur jusqu'à nouvel ordre et prévoit ce qui suit :

1. La terbutaline inhalée (agoniste beta 2) demeure dans la catégorie

permis avec avis préalable ª. La terbutaline se vend sous le nom commercial

Bricanyl Turbohaler au Canada.

2. Le formotérol inhalé est interdit. Le formotérol se vend sous les appellations commerciales Oxeze Turbuhaler et Foradil par inhalation au Canada.

Les athlètes sont donc priés de noter que seuls la terbutaline, le salmétérol et le salbutamol (agonistes beta 2) sont permis avec avis préalable.

Le CCES reconnaît que la suppression de la liste peut avoir des conséquences

pour les athlètes qui ont déjà communiqué avec leur médecin afin d'apporter

des changements aux médicaments qu'ils prennent pour traiter l'asthme de

façon à se conformer à la liste de 2001 du CIO. Le CCES a fait part de ses

commentaires sur cette situation sans précédent à la collectivité sportive

internationale et croit que les procédés/processus en voie d'examen par

l'AMA et du CIO donneront éventuellement lieu à un meilleur système.

Equipment Inspection - 8:45 a.m., Open Practice- 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. First scoring arrow 10:00 a.m.

Sunday, July 15 - FITA Outdoor Round (A.M. - Long Distances, P.M. - Short Distances)

Open Practice- 8:00 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. First scoring arrow 9:00 a.m.

Archers may shoot a Single FITA over two days or the Double FITA.

Olympic Round with no cut (everyone may enter) begins one hour after completion of last distance.

The OR ranking is based on long distances from the first day and short distances from the second day.
