FCA's Executive Committee is meeting this weekend in Ottawa to discuss your association's activities and budget for 2001. Draft minutes will be circulated and as soon as they are approved, they will be circulated to the FCA Board and posted on the FCA website. Along with making final preparations for that meeting, I have been unpacking and sorting through 12 large boxes of files from the NAC. Now all the information for the Federation is in one office. Aussi cette semaine je faisais une autre tache. J'avais recu tous les boites des dossiers du CNTA. Merci, Arthur...je pense... Je ai fait les menage. Maintenant tous les dossiers de la FCA sont dans un bureau seulement. Quel travaille!

Le 17 janvier a 21 heures 10 est née à l'hopital St-Luc à Montréal, Emma Lucescu, une belle fille de 7 livres et demie qui a donné beaucoup de travail à sa mère qui se porte bien maintenant. On January 17 at 9:10 p.m. Gabriela Cosovan gave birth to her first child, Emma Lucescu. Emma weighed 7.5 lbs and is keeping her mother occupied. Both are doing well. Congratulations to Emma and her parents.

5. Scheduled International Judge Training Seminar Scheduled International Judge Training Seminar . Salinas (Puerto Rico) Date: April 23-29, 2001 Content: This will be a clinic (in English) designed for training new and advanced International Judges. We will deal in detail with basic rules, Judge philosophy, the Olympic and World Championship rounds and all recent changes to the Constitution and Rules of FITA. Pre-qualifications: Normally, a candidate must have been a National Judge for at least two years. 8. ADVISORY NOTE REGARDING THE USE OF DIETARY SUPPLEMENTS CONTAINING EPHEDRA This Advisory Note is part of an ongoing series to inform Canadian athletes, coaches, medical and paramedical staff and sport governing bodies on the use of non-pharmaceutical products including herbal preparations and nutritional products. It has recently been brought to the CCES's attention that the use of dietary supplements containing ephedra may pose health risks to some individuals. Dietary supplements that contain ephedra (sometimes called ma huang) are widely promoted and used as a means of losing weight and/or increasing energy. In light of recently reported adverse events related to the use of these products, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has proposed limits on the dose and duration of use of such supplements. A number of reports of adverse reactions to dietary supplements that contain ephedra, some of which resulted in permanent injury or death, have appeared in the medical literature. Some of the reported adverse events involved the central nervous system (e.g. strokes, seizures), and cerebrovascular and cardiovascular systems. The article "Adverse Cardiovascular and Central Nervous System Events Associated with Dietary Supplements Containing Ephedra Alkaloids" by C. Haller and N. Benowitz cites examples of some of the supplements used by individuals which have been attributed to adverse events. Here are some examples of the products used: Shape-Fast Plus, Ultimate Orange, Ripped Force and Ripped Fuel. Ephedra is an International Olympic Committee banned substance. Therefore athletes subject to doping control should avoid using such substances. Athletes should avoid all products listing ma huang, chinese ephedra, ma huang extract, ephedra, ephedra sinica, ephedra extract, ephedra herb powder, epitonin or ephedrine as ingredients. Any one of these ingredients listed on the label indicates the presence of ephedrine in the product. Please remember that athletes always bear the ultimate responsibility for the products they ingest. 10. CALL FOR TEAM LEADER/APPEL AUX VOLONTAIRES ! World Target Championships Beijing, China, September 14-25, 2001 A Team Leader is required to travel with the team that will compete at the World Target Championships in Beijing China September 14-25, 2001. Applicants should submit a letter stating their reasons for applying and enlcose a resume. NCCP certification is desirable but not mandatory. The team leader will co-ordinate the travel arrangements with the archers and manage the team at the competition site. The FCA also has an urgent need for volunteers that would like to accompany the National Team at Beijing for the World Outdoor Championship September 14-25, 2001. The deadline for applying is February 23, 2001.
