Please remember that the FCA offices are closed until June 4th, 2001 at 07:30 EDT. The national office receives over 30 e-mails every 24 hours, so please keep refrain from sending your messages until the 4th. President Al Wills will be in transit between Ottawa and Victoria from May 31 to June 11. He will not be available before that date. Thank you.

3. PRACTICAL COACHING SUMMIT
University of Victoria August 18 & 19, 2001
Come and hear expert sport scientists and coaches as they debate their experiences in the world of skill learning and coaching. Among the noted researchers: Dr. Anders Ericsson of Florida State University, Dept. of Psychology, who will explain how the process of deliberate practice results in improvements in athletic performance. Dr. Jan Starkes of McMaster University, who will illustrate that coaches do not always maximize practice time or understand how to speed up the process of developing an expert athlete
A panel of Canada's national coaches, including Tim Frick, coach of the women's wheelchair basketball team that won gold in Sydney, will be on hand to react to the research.

Venez entendre des scientifiques du sport, des entraîneurs et des entraîneures débattre de leur expérience dans l'univers de l'entraînement et de l'apprentissage des habiletés. Parmi les chercheurs et les chercheures éminents qui participeront à ce sommet figureront: - Anders Ericsson, Ph. D., du département de psychologie de la Florida State University, qui expliquera comment le processus d'entraînement délibéré conduit à l'amélioration de la performance sportive; - Jan Starkes, Ph. D., de la McMaster University, qui mettra en évidence que les entraîneurs et les entraîneures ne maximisent pas toujours le temps d'entraînement ou ne comprennent pas toujours comment accélérer le processus de développement d'un athlète ou d'une athlète experts.

5. New Canadian Open Record- Nouveau record canadien ouvert
Cub girl compound-Cub fille arc démultiplié: Emerald Lemke, Port Moody,BC. in a FITA 1 round with a score of 536 on April 15th, 2001 and in a Canadian 900 round with a score of 283 at 45m, 285 at 35m , 297 at 25m and a total of 865 on May 5th 2001.
Senior woman compound limited-Femme sénior arc démultiplié limité: Pauline Ziehl-Grimsrud, Estevan SK. in a FITA II round with a score of 522, 2001-02-18.
Senior man recurve-Homme sénior arc à recourbure: Hugh MacDonald, Vancouver, BC. in a FITA STAR 1440 with a score of 336 at 70m, 2001-04-29.
I would like to congratulate also Kaitlyn Popson from Lethbridge AB, who held the Cub compound record for a FITA 1 with a score of 535 from March 11th to April 14th 2001.
