Ardent Archers at Osprey
The Ardent Archers at Osprey have turned out to be an interesting group of arrow flingers. Most weekends, rain, sleet or snow you will find the Ardent Archers, or those that say AR, AR, AR, making the rounds on the fixed butt range. Standard procedures include stopping for tea and cookies along side the babbling brook near butt #11 and sharing stories of the year's gone by, cause some of us are getting old.
During the trip around the range we spend a lot of time poking much fun at fellow shooters. Ops, I have said it. The 'we' word. Yes, fellow compound shooters, I have come out of the closet, so to speak, and I am now the proud owner of a re-curve bow and now enjoy many weekends with the Ardent Archers. Even have the certificate to prove it, signed by the "Grand Antler" himself, truly an honour.
While on the course there are many words of wisdom expressed as encouragement to those in attendance, such as; nice stance, good arc, excellent release, great tongue position, good foot placement. All meant to encourage those whose arrow may not have made the mark or the butt for that matter, but all in good fun.
I usually take Saba my trusty golden retriever on these outings; in fact he won't let me leave the house without him. One fellow AR, AR, AR, has been know to hurl verbal insults at Saba, sometimes things not fit to print. However, that has all changed since Saba found John Rowan's arrow with only two inches of the tip exposed in the snow, even the fletchings were buried. John, formerly known as "Twisted Limb" had to recant his verbal abuse for the time being and apologize to Saba. Problem was he didn’t have any dog biscuits to get his point across. But given time I am sure that Saba will again accept John into the fold. We do have fun and enjoy the verbal banter, fresh air, broken arrows and occasional good shot. AR, AR, AR!

The latest FITA Judge Committee newsletter has just arrived with a nice photo of all the judges who worked at the Paralympic Games, including Ghislain Arseneault. It looks like there will be a lot of new case studies to review on the FCA web site in the near future. Watch for them!

The athlete's rep. position takes effect at the AGM when the election process is finalized, and the new rep. is presented, and his/her mandate ends at the next election (two years later) at the AGM.

10. The Spirit of Sport Foundation/ La Fondation de l'Esprit du sport
The Spirit of Sport Foundation today announced the Finalists for the 28th annual Canadian Sport Awards presented by Investors Group, to be held in Toronto on March 20, 2001. More than 100 individuals were nominated for awards to be presented in 11 categories. As well, over 25 corporations were nominated in four categories recognizing the tremendous support Corporate Canada has provided to amateur sport.
The finalists for female athlete of the year are diver Anne Montminy of Pointe Claire, Québec, a double medalist at the 2000 Olympic Games, canoeist Caroline Brunet of St. Sauveur, Québec, winner of this Award at last year's event and Chantal Petitclerc of Montréal, gold medalist in
the 800m at the 2000 Paralympic Games.
In the category of outstanding male athlete, the finalists are 2000 Olympic Gold Medalist in wrestling, Daniel Igali of Surrey BC; wheelchair track and field star Jeff Adams of Toronto, winner of four medals at the 2000 Paralympic Games; and triathlete Simon Whitfield of Victoria, Gold Medalist in the Sydney Olympic Triathlon.
For the outstanding pairs award, Olympic Gold medalists in doubles tennis, Daniel Nestor of Toronto and Sebastien Lareau of Mont-Royal, Quebec will face off against the silver medal diving team of Montminy and her partner Emilie Heymans of St. Lambert, Québec and the figure skating pairs team of Jamie Salé, of Red Deer, Alberta, and David Pelletier of Sayabec, Québec.
Finalists in other Award categories include diving sensation Alexandre Despatie of Laval, Québec, swimming star Marianne Limpert of Fredericton, New Brunswick and Hayley Wickenheiser, outstanding Olympian in Ice Hockey Team and Softball.
The Canadian Sport Awards will be hosted by Ron MacLean and televised
coast-to-coast on CBC, March 21st, 2001 at 7:00pm (local time).
During the event, Awards will also be presented by the Coaching Association of Canada, the Aboriginal Sport Circle, the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity and the Sport Medicine and Science Council of Canada.

Au cours du gala, des prix seront également décernés par l'Association canadienne des entraîneurs, le Cercle sportif autochtone, l'Association canadienne pour l_avancement des femmes, du sport et de l'activité physique et le Conseil canadien des sciences et de la médecine du sport.
