1. VOICEPRINT PROMISES COMPLETE PARALYMPIC COVERAGE!
Toronto, September 28 - When Canada's Paralympic athletes begin their quest for gold, silver, and bronze medals Oct. 18, VoicePrint-Official Media Sponsor of the Canadian Paralympic Team will be there to capture all the excitement. During the 11-day event, ending Oct. 29, VoicePrint will broadcast nationally a daily program at Noon (repeated at 6 p.m.) ET providing all the news from the Paralympic Games in Sydney, Australia. Each show will carry the latest results, medal standings, Paralympic history and background, interviews, profiles on the athletes and special features from "our man in Sydney" Keith Hobbs. "We're all very excited about the Paralympics," says Arlene Patterson, VoicePrint manager. "With VoicePrint receiving media accreditation, we will be on top of the Games like never before. We are the only national broadcaster who will be carrying daily results from Sydney. That alone makes it very special."
The Sydney Paralympics will be the second-largest sporting event held this year in the world. With 134 countries and 4000 athletes competing (of which Canada has 162 athletes), these Paralympic Games promise many memories and medals.
VoicePrint is encouraging companies and corporations who want to record a special message of good wishes to our athletes to call us at 1-800-567-6755. The proceeds raised from these messages will help offset the costs incurred by the charity.

To all friends of Canadian Sport
The Sport Alliance of Ontario normally confines itself to commenting on issues in sport that fall within the Province of Ontario. However the disappointment suffered by our Canadian Olympic athletes in Sydney emphasizes that there are serious problems in the structure and funding of sport from top to bottom of the system. If Canada is to once again become the first-rate sporting nation that so many of our fellow Canadians wish it to be, then immediate steps must be taken.
The answers to the questions posed by Sydney are not simple and we do not wish to make them appear simpler than they are. However it is quite clear that there must be a renewed and greater commitment to both new leadership and new resources at the Federal level. Already mixed signals
about this are coming from Ottawa. At the same time, a federal election in the next two months is looking more and more likely.
There will never be a better time than now for those of us who care passionately about the fate of amateur sport in Canada to make our views known to our Federal political leaders. Fresh from the disappointment of Sydney, committed to a 2008 Olympic bid, and with a Federal election
looming, we believe that they will be responsive to a letter-writing campaign from the grass roots of our province.
We have written the following letter to Prime Minister Chrétien, to be copied to Heritage Minister Copps, Sport Minister Coderre, and eyeryones local Federal MP. We ask and urge everyone who receives this to cut and paste the letter and e-mail it to our political leaders. Pass it to your clubs, membership and friends and ask THEM to do the same. Post it to your websites, print it in your newsletters. Let us show the Government of Canada and all Federal political parties that Canadians
really DO care about our amateur athletes.

The Right Honourable Jean Chrétien, P.C., M.P.
Prime Minister of Canada,

Dear Mr. Chrétien,
As a taxpayer and Canadian I am concerned that we are not doing enough to support our Olympic athletes.
Although I understand that cost-cutting measures at all levels of Government have been necessary in the past few years, I also firmly believe that we cannot ask our athletes to carry our pride, our flag and our hopes to an Olympic Games without giving them the support that they need to fulfill those hopes. Our Olympic athletes subsist on an average income of $15,000 a year from all sources. They have heavy travel and training expenses to meet, and too often the support they receive in terms of coaching and sport-technical assistance is simply inadequate because the resources are not there at any level of the system.
It may be true that the medal count is not the only measure of performance. But no young person sets his or her sights on an amateur athletic career without a dream of Olympic triumph, and no Canadian Olympic team goes abroad without carrying the hopes of Canadians that we will hear our anthem played and see those young people standing proud on the podium.
Your Government has pledged to support Torontos bid for the 2008 Olympics. Canada has already hosted two Olympics and been the only host nation never to win a gold medal at our own Games. It takes many years to prepare an Olympic competitor. Unless our athletes, coaches and volunteer structures receive a serious degree of increased support almost immediately we will be in danger of setting a new record of three Games at home without a gold.
I ask you as leader of our Government to undertake a pledge of renewed and increased support for the young people who are the pride of our nation and the inspiration for our youth.
Yours sincerely,
<your name/and address>
