What a week! All the medals and personalized letters for both the national indoor championships and mailmatches went out this week to our members--all 184 of them! So, if I was not too quick returning your e-mail messages and/or telephone calls this week, now you know why. Special thanks goes to programme co-ordinators Greg Durward and Andrew Webber respectively, as well as all our club contacts. Without clubs, sport is just a name.

Ottawa , April 30 2000 - The Ottawa Band Singers moving selection of Aboriginal songs of encouragement, an eerie Didgeridoo rendition of Dingo Chasing Kangaroo, a grade six Manotick school choir singing Waltzing Matilda and O Canada, moving remarks by Tae Kwon Do qualifier Dominique Bosshart and 2000 Olympic Hall of Fame coach inductee Donald Dion were just some of the emotion-packed scenes at today's enthusiastic Canadian Olympic Association send-off for Canada's 2000 Olympic team.
Secretary of State for Amateur Sport Denis Coderre welcomed all of the Congress' registrants to a private dinner on Parliament Hill on Friday evening and then personally led a tour of the House of Commons and the Senate. Earlier in the day Mr. Coderre hosted a news conference at Congress to announce a number of new initiatives, including increased funding for athletes preparing for the Olympic and Paralympic Sydney Games and renewed support for coaches. At that time Mr. Coderre and COA President Bill Warren also signed a joint protocol agreement affirming their intent to work together and to provide leadership to strengthen and support amateur sport in Canada.

I just received a phone call from Sport Canada and archers going to the Olympics and Para-lympics WILL benefit from this announcement!!! More details to follow.
Also, I have been informed that FCA has met FULLY the eligibility criteria for the federal funding framework 2001-2005. FCA was complemented on its "thorough submission". Darned right--by the time I was finished I needed to put it in a binder. Now for step two, and the most difficult. In June FCA will receive the Assessment Questionnaire. FCA will have until October to complete it. This will be the ultimate test for the funding issue. But, so far, so good!
*************************************************************************

3. Team Leader for Championship of the Americas/Gerant(e) concernant l'equipe de la Colombie de 5 au 13 aout.
Team Leader Needed (de Joan McDonald)
The FCA needs a Team Leader for the Championships of the Americas to be held in Medellin, Colombia, August 5th - 13, 2000. This team can be composed of both recurve and compound archers in the senior, junior and cadet category as defined by FITA. There are a number of
Canadian archers who are interested in attending this tournament, but without a Team Leader, it will be very difficult for them to attend.
The Team Leader will work with Pascal Colmaire and Joan McDonald to prepare the travel arrangements for the team and with the organizing committee in Colombia for accommodation and transportation to the tournament. Medellin, Colombia has excellent sporting facilities
including a first class archery range and the organizing committee appears very advanced in their preparations.
Unfortunately, the FCA does not have funds to assist financially with this team. Please contact Kathy Millar or Pascal Colmaire at the FCA office if you are interested in this volunteer position.
