To Pascal Colmaire:
We just had a nice long chat with Owen and he told us about the excellent coaching you gave him. We can't thank you enough for all your help. He said he now has memories that he will never forget. The support you showed him before and during the Bronze Medal Match was the ultimate. He says you kept him focused and calm right down to the last arrow. You'll have to give us your email address when you get set up in France so we can keep in contact. I have encouraged Owen to write down everything you told him so he can review. Hope to see you at the 3-D Nationals.

3. 3D News/Les nouvelles 3D (uniquement en anglais)

ARCHERS ASSOCIATION OF NOVA SCOTIA RULES FOR SANCTIONED SHOOTS 1999
Introduction
The Board of Directors of AANS at the Annual Meeting held during the Fall of 1998 approved the concept of sanctioned shoots as a means to determine which shooters would qualify for available funding to attend the Canadian 3D Nationals in a given year. Due to cut backs from all levels funding for this event is limited. These rules were approved by the AANS 3D committee at a meeting held on February 2, 1999 and will be the rules of qualification for available funding.
Purpose
For some time concern has been expressed as to how funding should be provided to competitors with a desire to attend the Canadian 3D Nationals. The intent would be to provide available funding to those AANS competitors that have met the requirements as established by the 3D committee of AANS.
Rules
1 Only current paid up members of AANS can participate for funding qualification.
2 AANS membership must be paid prior to the first sanctioned shoot in a given year.
3 Each competitor must participate in the same category for a minimum of three (3) sanctioned shoots.
4 There will be "zero tolerance" for any misrepresentation of scores, should this occur, competitor will be disqualified for that year.
5 Registered to the Canadian 3D Nationals before the Provincial 3D competition.
6 Attend a minimum of three (3) of the AANS sanctioned shoots.
7 Have placed within the top three positions of their particular category.
8 Have made application to AANS for funding prior to the Nova Scotia Provincial 3D competition.
9 The FCA Rules must be followed for each AANS sanctioned shoot.
10 All classes of competitors may be considered for funding by the 3D committee of AANS.
Scoring Format
Scores from a given sanctioned shoot will be calculated as a percentage of the total possible score as each shoot may allow different total scores. The average of the three best scores will be used to determine the overall average. The following table is an example only;

SCORING
1999 Antigonish Archers
99-04-18 Osprey Archers
99-05-02 Sheet Harbour
99-05-30 3D Provincials
99-06-5
Possible Score 400 400 400 600
Actual Score 356 385 290 558
Percentage 89.00% 96.25% 72.50% 93.00%
Total 92.75%
Club's Sanctioned Shoot Responsibility
Each club that hosts a sanctioned shoot will be responsible to record all shooter scores on an official score sheet provided by AANS 3D committee. This sheet must be signed and witnessed by the club's shoot organizers and forwarded to the AANS vice president of 3D in order for the shooters to be registered. The current FCA Rules must be followed for all AANS sanctioned shoots.

Well the Eighth running of the Canadian Classic 3D championships have once again come and gone. This being one of the most prestigious Archery tournaments in Ontario was again held in conjunction of the Ontario 3D triple crown, it being the 2nd leg the Algoma Rod and Gun Club holding the 1st and Nudel Bush archers holding the 3rd on the 13 of August. The tournament was again a great success with the number of participants around the 250 mark. The course was as challenging as ever with the difficulty about the same as the previous, although one difference was the course was a lot shorter than other years with the farthest target somewhere in the low 40 yard range. A proven fact that a course does not have to be stretched to the max in order to make it hard.
Cam Jacklin who was responsible for the entire set up is to be commended on a superb job. Cam had a good mix of up and down shots about split, although myself had more trouble on the down hill ones. He had targets buried up to the belly a good trick to make you think they were farther than
they actually were. Lots of valley's to shoot across. Lots of uneven ground for your footing and a lot of other tricks to make it difficult. This is one great tournament.
The list of prizes was impressive as they gave away 5 compound bows, Camo suits, chronographs Mckensie targets and all sorts of smaller prizes that numbered in the mid 50's. The camping was again well organized with more than enough room for all the people who decided to tent or camper it.

For those looking to travel to an excellent tournament in the future there are two so far that
really impressed me. One being York County and the second being the Algoma O.A.A championships. Hopefully we have another in the up and coming F.C.A Championships in Aylmer Quebec as Jacque Carrier and his band of workers have been busy all year preparing what we are sure will be another great 3D tournament and we hope to see everyone there.
Editor: Thanks for the update, Carl. If anyone else wants 3D news in this weekly bulletin, please send it in. I can't print what I don't get.
