6. Survey/Sondage (enquete)
Here are this week's comments regarding advertising on the FCA website. Thanks to those who took the time to share their thoughts. / Voici les commentaires cette semaine vis-a-vis les publicites sur notre site web. Merci tous les sondees.
SAA Board of Directors:
SAA had their meeting Sunday and we all agreed that FCA should allow advertising on its website.
AAA President Greg Loftus
I do not object to advertisment on the web site so long as it generates suffient income for the FCA.
Roger Garrod, Manitoba
My first impression is NO WAY. I hate the crass advertising I find on some sites. I naturally avoid paying attention to it, and it wastes my precious time waiting for it to load. In general I hate the commercialism I see at sport events, on public transport, on glaring billboards, etc. Most of it is totally unsophisticated and take s the consumer for a fool. (now you see I have strong feelings) However, if advertising is tasteful, minimal, fast to load, non-active and set up to allow us to click on the site rather than have it blaring in our faces all the time, I might me convinced that it is acceptable.
One suggestions - set it up for a trial period - one month comes to mind - no more than two.
Roger Garrod
Julie Welburn, Quebec
I agree to put ads of sponsors on our website. julie
Denis Beaudet, Quebec
Question: Voulez-vous voir les publicites sur notre site du web?
Réponse
Oui et non. / Yes and no.
C'est une simple question qui demande une réponse compliquée. / It's a quite simple question who ask a complex answer. There are many factors to take in consideration. There are good and bad advertising on Web. Most of them are bad in a point of user view.
- How the FCA will be paid ? Flat rate ? Micro payment ? A reduction for those archers who will buy via FCA-Sponsor link ? A mix of all that.
- How this advertising will be showed on the FCA Web site ? Will this advertising be a blinking banner, colorful, running all over the all FCA web page ? Or this advertising will be an other window open over the FCA Web page ? Is the FCA will have a veto on the format ?
- The FCA Home page already contain non-archery sponsor advertising :Labatt, Robin Hood, etc. Make sure they will not interfer with these sponsors.
I am pro
- if this advertising will be respectful of user, discret and non-invasing
- if it is in accordance of the first mission of the FCA Web site
- if this advertising have a benefit (money, goods) return to FCA without cost
- and/or a benefit to those use the FCA-Sponsor link to make business with the sponsor
I am con
- if this advertising will distracted and annoyed the user
- if this advertising will be out of control of FCA
Article to read :
Denis Beaudet, human factors expert.
Shawn Riggs, Ontario
Any sponsorship the FCA can get for its web site would be awsome. I quite often think that it would be better if we more actively pursued non-archery sponsors.
Shawn Riggs
Carl Jones, Ontario
How about a little advertisement to help the Pro Gun, not the Government, bring in a totally usless law..
7. ChampionsCanada
I wrote to you earlier informing of a link on FCA site for Championscanada,I just received some news form them, I urge you to have a look at it. I am sorry the Site is not in French.
Subject: Money Matters at ChampionsCanada.com Date: Wed, 25 Oct 2000 18:23:45 -0700
Dear Marthe,
ChampionsCanada.com, the website where you help Canada's amateur athletes achieve their dreams, recently surveyed athletes who've fully filled out their site.
As a result of their feedback, ChampionsCanada now includes a whole new area devoted to informing the public about the financial aspects of being an elite athlete - from the athletes perspective. It's called 'Money Matters' and includes:
- A section where athletes can talk about how much it costs them to compete and what they do to finance their career. - A section for athletes to publicly acknowledge sponsors (with an optional link to their website) and other people who have helped athletes get where they are.
- A section that allows athletes to direct support to an organization rather than themselves.
The issue of money was discussed endlessly at the Sydney Olympics. The new Money Matters section is the athletes opportunity to educate people about their financial reality.
'Money Matters' is important even if an athlete doesn't need additional funding, either because they already earn enough, retired, or have
restrictions which make receiving money from ChampionsCanada inappropriate. Athletes can now set their funding goal to zero ($0) and select an organization for people to support.
The new feature has just been announced, so only a few athletes have had a chance to fill out their 'Money Matters' information. Check out what discus thrower, Jason Tunks, skier Anne-Marie Lefrancoise and baseball player Hyung Cho have to say at

Please pass this on to Joan:
Just wanted to say THANKS for the bulletins you forwarded from Sydney. The journal was well done and it really gave me a good sense of what it was like and the detailed descriptions of the matches helped me to feel I was there watching. In particular, Thanks for the last notes on your impressions of the Games. I thought it was very well written - I think you have a talent for writing. We should send you along to all events just for your writing. Roger Garrod
