Greg Loftus reports he has found 16m indoors. And that beats trying to shoot outside at -35! Congratulations, Greg. This should really help archery grow.
Greg Loftus a confirme qu'il a eu trouve les installations interieures de 16m. Le tir a l'arc va agrandir parce qu'il n'y a personne qui voudrait tirer dehors quand il fait moins 35C! Felicitations, Greg.

You may recall that Archie Lovelace, long-time level 3 coach, had quite a serious accident late last year. He's at home now and seems to be doing much better, thank goodness. His mishap made the SAA realize just how important Archie was to their coaching certification programme. And, with him temporarily on the side-lines, there was a great need to train and certify level one course conductors. So, last weekend I was happy to lead both a level 1 technical clinic and train 4 new course conductors at the same time. It was very busy, but quite fun. Thank you to the SAA for looking after me so well, and Melville Truflight Archery Club as gracious hosts. And, special thanks to Doc and Phil for the chauffeur job. Now, if we could just do something about the -30C mornings!
Souvenez-vous l'accident serieux d'Archie Lovelace du Saskatchewan? Heureusement, il reste chez lui maintenant. Son accident a demontre une faiblesse du programme de certification des entraineurs du Saskatchewan. Archie a ete vraiment leur programme de certification! Donc, j'ai ete invite de certifier 4 stagiaires et 7 candidats du niveau 1. Mon travail m'a occupe toute la fin semaine, mais il a ete tres drole. Je voudrais remercier l'association provincial et le club Melville Truflight, et aussi mes chauffeurs Doc et Phil. Maintenant, est-ce que c'est possible de me rechauffer? Je deteste les matins -30C!

7. COA SOARS WITH NEWS AIR CANADA IS EXPANDING SPONSORSHIP TO INCLUDE 30 NATIONAL SPORT FEDERATIONS/
AIR CANADA ÉTEND SON PROGRAMME DE PARRAINAGE À 30 FÉDÉRATIONS NATIONALES DE SPORT
On behalf of the FCA, I have been working on a marketing strategy with the COA. The process has been quite labour-intensive, but now there are some results. Labatt's has committed to small event-specific sponsorship as well. Thanks to Marthe Cusson for this press release.
Au nomme de la FCA, j'avais travaille avec l'AOC de creer une strategie de marketing. Ce processus m'a bien occupe, mais on peut voir les resultats. Labatt's nous donnera une petite subvention sportive, et maintenant nous avons l'aide d'une autre companie canadienne. Je voudrais remercier a Marthe Cusson qui m'a envoye ce bulletin.

Toronto - (February 16, 2000 ) - The Canadian Olympic Association and several Canadian Olympic hopefuls today joined Air Canada and other members of the Canadian amateur sport family to celebrate the airline's addition of two major components to its sponsorship program: the donation of airline frequent flyer points to athletes travelling to qualifying events and a fund raising campaign.
Air Canada has launched its new Go Canada Go travel fund in time to help many Canadian Olympic hopefuls travel to world championships, other Sydney 2000 qualifying events and for training. Ten million air mile points are being directed to approximately 30 National Sports Federations to help cover the travel costs of their athletes', coaches and other support personnel. Participating sports are members of the COA/NSF joint marketing program.
"The Go Canada Go travel fund will ease the financial burden on many Canadian athletes, given that international travel today represents such a major component of an athletes' training costs," stated Carol Anne Letheren, COA Chief Executive Officer. "Air Canada has added an extremely valuable element to their COA sponsorship by offering these tickets, which are especially important given the federal government's declining financial support of Canada's National Sport Federations over the past decade," she added.
The COA also welcomes a new fund raising program that Air Canada has developed, which is designed to encourage the general public to donate cash to support athletes' travel costs. It has set an $800,000 goal for this program. "The COA's 50% share of the money raised by this campaign will be used to offset athlete travel costs to the Sydney Olympic Games," said Ms. Letheren.
The COA, a private, not-for-profit corporation, is the largest private sector funder of amateur sport in Canada. Its board of directors includes representatives of the National Federations of every Olympic and Pan Am sport. The COA is responsible for all aspects of Canada's involvement in the Olympic Movement, including Canada's participation in the Olympic and Pan American Games. In addition, the COA manages a wide variety of programs that promote the Olympic Movement in Canada through cultural and educational means.

Toronto - (le 16 février 2000 ) - L'Association olympique canadienne et plusieurs athlètes canadiens désireux de se qualifier pour les Jeux olympiques se sont joints à des représentants d'Air Canada et à d'autres membres de la famille du sport amateur canadien aujourd'hui pour célébrer l'addition, par cette société aérienne, de deux grands volets à son programme de parrainage : le don de points de milles Aéroplan aux athlètes qui se rendent à des épreuves de qualification et une campagne de financement.
Air Canada a créé son fonds On y va Canada à temps pour aider de nombreux athlètes canadiens prometteurs à se rendre aux championnats du monde, à d'autres épreuves de qualification pour les Jeux olympiques de 2000 à Sydney et aux lieux d'entraînement. Dix millions de milles aériens seront distribués à une trentaine de fédérations nationales de sport afin de les aider à couvrir les frais de déplacement des athlètes, des entraîneurs et des autres membres du personnel de soutien. Les fédérations sportives participantes sont membres du programme conjoint de marketing AOC/FNS.
« Le fonds On y va Canada allégera le fardeau financier de nombreux athlètes canadiens, étant donné que les déplacements internationaux représentent de nos jours une si grande partie de leurs frais d'entraînement », a expliqué Carol Anne Letheren, chef de la direction de l'AOC. « En offrant ces billets, Air Canada a ajouté un élément de grande valeur à son parrainage de l'AOC. Ceux-ci sont d'autant plus importants alors que le soutien financier des fédérations nationales de sport par le gouvernement fédéral n'a cessé de baisser au cours des 10 dernières années. »
L'AOC se réjouit également du nouveau programme de financement mis au point par Air Canada, qui vise à encourager les membres du public à donner de l'argent pour aider à couvrir les frais de déplacement des athlètes. L'objectif de ce programme a été fixé à 800 000 $. « L'AOC, qui touchera 50 % de l'argent recueilli dans le cadre de ce programme, utilisera sa part des fonds pour défrayer le voyage des athlètes à Sydney », a ajouté Mme Letheren.
L'AOC, organisme sans but lucratif, est le plus grand fournisseur de fonds du secteur privé pour le sport amateur au Canada. Son conseil d'administration inclut des représentants des fédérations nationales de tous les sports olympiques et panaméricains. L'AOC est responsable de tous les aspects de la participation canadienne au mouvement olympique, y compris les Jeux olympiques et les Jeux panaméricains. L'AOC administre aussi une grande variété de programmes qui font la promotion du mouvement olympique au Canada par des moyens culturels et éducatifs.
