I just read all of Al Wills' work on the internet for MICA results. It
was quite a job!! Pascal has been pulling his hair out trying to get
results,
and if your club participated in MICA, could you please do Al a favour and look on the www.FCA.ca to make sure the results
are printed correctly. If
you notice any errors, contact PASCAL at fcanac@total.net. Thank you to

Media Release from Canadian Olympic Association
COA DISCUSSES EXPECTED COURT DATE TIMING, CLARIFIES MISINFORMATION RE:
LOTTERY LOAN
Specialty Risk, the brokers who represented the
Canadian Olympic Athlete Lottery, is proceeding to arbitration and the COA is
hopeful
that it will be resolved before the end of the year in
COA President Bill Warren noted that at last week's
meeting of the COA's board of directors it was agreed
that proceeds resulting from
this legal action would be deployed in the following
manner: first, all legal costs would be paid; second, the money from the
Canadian
Olympic Fund used to repay the loan taken out to cover
the shortfall between lottery costs and revenues and to fund the costs related
to
the legal action would be repaid; third, the $4
million originally slated for the Athletes' Fund would be deposited into that
Fund; and
fourth, all remaining dollars would go into the
general fund.
"Unfortunately, the status of the Canadian
Olympic Fund has been misinterpreted lately by individuals not familiar with
it," said Mr.
original Fund, which was started with $55 million in
1989, today has an inflation-protected value of $67 million. Thanks to
prudent
investing and management, the current total market
value of the Fund is $84 million. That means that today the Fund has an
additional $17
million in purchasing power, thanks to the successful
management of the growth of our original investment."
The COA has reinforced its commitment that the
Athletes' Fund, initiated in 1996, will not be negatively impacted by the
results of
the lottery or any litigation arising from it.

Toronto, le 4 mai 1999 - L'Association olympique canadienne a annoncé aujourd'hui que les poursuites entreprises contre Global Specialty
Risk, les courtiers qui ont représenté la Loterie des athlètes olympiques canadiens, iront en arbitrage et que l'AOC a bon espoir
d'en arriver à un règlement à Dallas avant la fin de l'année. Le procès
contre les autres accusés devrait débuter au printemps 2000.
Bill Warren, président de
l'AOC, a indiqué qu'il a été décidé
à la réunion du conseil d'administration
de la semaine dernière que les
sommes empruntées
au Fonds olympique canadien pour payer le prêt visant
à combler le manque à gagner
entre les coûts de la loterie et
les recettes ainsi que les coûts
associés aux poursuites en
justice seraient remboursées;
troisièmement, les 4 millions de dollars qui
devaient être
versés au Fonds des athlètes seront versés dans ce
Fonds et, quatrièmement,
les sommes restantes seront versées dans le fonds d'administration
générale.
«Malheureusement, les gens peu familiers
avec le Fonds olympique canadien ont mal interprété la nature de ce fonds dernièrement», dit
M. Warren. Il explique
que l'AOC protège le pouvoir d'achat du capital du Fonds depuis
sa création, de sorte que le Fonds,
qui
contenait 55 millions de
dollars lors de sa création en 1989, possède aujourd'hui une valeur de 67 millions de dollars protégés contre
l'inflation. La valeur totale du
Fonds sur le marché d'aujourd'hui
est de 84 millions de dollars grâce
à des investissements sûrs et à
une gestion
prudente. Ainsi, le Fonds possède aujourd'hui
un pouvoir d'achat de 17 millions de plus grâce
à la gestion réussie de la
croissance de son investissement initial.
L'AOC a confirmé que le Fonds des athlètes, créé en 1996, ne subira pas les conséquences négatives des résultats de la loterie ou des
poursuites auxquelles elle a donné lieu.

MILLS TO ELECTED OFFICIALS: SUPPORT SPORT OR RISK LOSING COMMUNITY'S SUPPORT
IN FUTURE ELECTIONS
Mills, in a passionate entreaty to Olympic Congress attendees, made it clear
to delegates that they have a responsibility to themselves and
to the future of amateur sport in
understand the benefit of sport to
to tell their elected representatives that if they don't give sport the
attention it deserves, sport supporters are going to defeat them in the
next election. Tell them: "we are not going to vote for you."
Sport, said Mills, is one subject that pulls all political parties
together. "If you educate the right people, we will have a better
chance of getting things done," he said.
Mills cited a number of statistics from the Canadian
Olympic Association Parliamentary Outreach Program

activity directly related to sport represents a total of $7.7 billion annually
in Canada - that's 1.17% of Gross Domestic Product; children
in Canada are 40% less active than their parents were at the same age; and $776
million a year would be saved in healthcare for heart disease
alone if all Canadians were active.

milliards de dollars par année au Canada, c'est-à-dire

brut; les enfants canadiens
