The big upset this year was the defeat of the Korean women's team by the Ukraine.  This will mark the first time since 1979 that Korean women will not be winning a team medal at Worlds. /Les coreens surprennent en perdant face a l'Ukraine en quarts de finales.  Il s'agit de la premiere fois que les coreennes n'obtiennent pas de medailles depuis 1979.

2. Canadian National Championships/notre championnat exterieur
This year marks the first time that all 3 outdoor championships are being shot at the same venue.  It is a great opportunity for target, field and 3D shooters to get to know each other better.  Full results will be posted on our website and highlights will be listed here in two weeks.

Il s'agit de la preimiere fois que les 3 championnats exterieurs tirent sur la meme site.  Ecrivez a notre site en deux semaine pour les resultats de 3D, de cible fixe et de parcours.

5. Ontario Spring Classic - a personal view (English only)
This yearís Ontario Spring Classic lived up to every connotation of  its name as it was of very high quality and outstanding in its field.  Canada now holds the Standard of Excellence in this type of event.   The playing field of Crescent School in Toronto ON was transformed June  11, 12, 13 into a Spectacular Fita Competition.  Day one had US and  Canadian competitors shooting 144 arrows from distances of 70m, 60m,  50m, 30m, for women and 90m, 70m, 50m, 30m, for men.  Archers competed  in four categories; Olympic: male & female and Compound: male &  female.  The heat, smog, bright sun and wind kept the archers challenged as there  were few easy shots to be had.  The scores were used to rank all  competitors for the following dayís Match Play Rounds.  That day was  even more grueling as the weather was muggier.
The quality of the judges, officials, announcers, recorders and  equipment, was superb.  Polite efficiency reigned throughout.  What a fantastic experience!
As usual, the two official languages could be heard simultaneously  intermixed with laughter and camaraderie.  Great Events promote Great
 Sportsmanship!
Each archer was well taken care of with confirmation of registration  letters, individual archer packages containing gifts, itinerary, butt
assignments, score cards, competitors names etc.  We had access to the  school cafeteria and washrooms for those not too crazy for  Johnny-on-the-spots, and, a bar-b-que lunch the second day.   The winners took home Big Prize Money of $500 and a handmade stained
glass Flying Canada Goose Mobile.  Second place received $200 and  third  $60, the cost of registration.
Although over 75 attended this Ontario Spring Classic 1999, I hope  this  event doubles or triples in size next year.  If you have never tried
this event, mark your sights for the distances and be prepared to  participate in an Excellent Event.
I had the opportunity to publicly thank the event organizers, on behalf  of the board of directors of the OAA.  However,  saying THANK YOU to
Joan Mc Donald and Gary Gillies is quite inadequate compared to the feat  they accomplished in realizing a Spectacular Spring Classic and  setting
the Standard of Excellence for this type of event.  WOW!
 CONGRATULATIONS!
  In sincere appreciation,
   Heather Whittier
