2. Sexual Harassment in Archery (disponible en anglais seulement)
From: "Dan Churchill"
Don't know if the FCA would be interested in this or not (and you may already know)...

This month, a former champion archer coaching at a leading archery club in Great Britain admitted to four counts of sexual abuse against two of his students.

Are you concerned about sexual abuse and harassment, and other forms of abuse suffered by young athletes?  A recent study on misconduct in sports concluded that "sport is the last bastion of child abuse."  SPORTS ILLUSTRATED's recent cover story on abuse in sports asks "How safe is your child?"  From Little League to college athletics to Olympic sports, abuse and harassment is the problem in sports that no one wants to talk about until it's happened to their child.
What is sexual abuse, harassment and exploitation, and why are young athletes at risk?
How do you protect your child from abusive coaches and sports  officials?
How can athletes, parents and concerned others come forward to report abusive behavior without fear of retaliation that could damage their careers?
How can responsible coaches continue to effectively do their job without fear of false allegations?
What are sports organizations doing to address abuse and harassment, and to encourage a healthy and positive atmosphere for athletes, parents and coaches alike?
ABUSE-IN-SPORT is a new mailing list for those who wish to engage in constructive discussion on research and sports organization policies, to share information on how to protect your child from abusive coaches and officials, and to talk about other issues relating to making athletes, parents, responsible coaches and sports fans more aware about abuse in sports. If you would like to join the discussion list, please register via Onelist at

3. A 2-deer season, the hard way
Tom Sew (AB)got more than he bargained for last week: he got 2 deer....one with a bow and one with his Chevy Killer-a-doe. Good thing Alberta has general tags!  Hope the Chevy survived, Tom!

3. Les chevreuils et les autos
Un de notre membre d'Alberta, archer/chasseur, Tom Sew a gagne deux chevreuils:  un avec son arc, l'autre avec son auto "Chevy Killer-a-doe". J'espere que le Chevy a survecu!

4. Barbados Open
From: Chris Alleyne  We are holding the Barbados Open this year from November 26th to 30th and would like to invite archers from a few countries to attend.  This year it will be a FITA star tournament, and we will also have a compound division.
Chris

Notre federation va hoter un tournoi FITA le 26-30 novembre.  Il y aura les deux styles, recourbe et arc a poulie.  Vous voulez d'etre invite, contactez Chris Alleyne

5. Record Correction
Hello Kathy,
In my e-mail of September 28th ,1999 I wrote:
Master man compound- Homme maitre arc à poulies,Larry Lemke, Pt-Moody,BC.
900 Round,286-55meters, 1999-08-26.
As Larry Lemke is a Senior man compound, his record should read :
296 at 45m for a Cdn 900 round 1999-08-26.
Sorry for the misunderstanding.

5.   Une correction des records
Le 28 septembre j'ai envoye un courriel:
Master man compound- Homme maitre arc à poulies,Larry Lemke, Pt-Moody,BC.
900 Round,286-55meters, 1999-08-26.
Mais, M. Lemke et homme senior, pas maitre, donc, son record est:
296 at 45m round Cdn 900 1999-08-26.

6. Canadians in Mexico
Our recurve archers have one more chance to compete for spots in Sydney next year.  Therefore, this is a very important tournament for these elite archers.  FCA wishes them the best.  Here is some information from Pascal Colmaire to clarify what will be taking place next week in Mexico City.

REGULATIONS (summary)
Three places for the 2000 Olympic Games will be allocated to the top 3
archers from each of 5 CQT’s (Continental Qualifying Tournaments).  A country cannot earn more than 2 places at a CQT.  An individual archer can only earn 1 place for his/her country. It is important to remember that archers can only qualify places for Canada, NOT for individual archers.
For example if two archers from the same country - Archer A and Archer B -
finish in the top 3 at the 1999 CQT, they have earned two places for their country at the 2000 Olympics, not for themselves.  It is then up to that country to decide which two archers will be sent to the Olympics.
