Greetings/Bonjour:

This week I have been very busy with the enclosures you will find in your Board mailing, just hot off the press. If you are on the board mailing list you will receive the updated Volunteer handbook. Thank you goes to Al Wills who got me motivated to do it and helped with much of the revision. Next, you will find the updated 1998 Directory. That was a job and a half! Again, thanks to Al Wills, it had been updated from 1997, but I did not have the time to revise club listings and provincial board members. So, if your province kept the FCA office informed, your PSO executive members are listed, too. If you are a Board member, you will find two copies of the Directory. Please pass the other one on to your president.

J'ai inclu deux copies de la R*pertoire du Tir ˆ l'Arc canadien si tu es membre du conseil; une copie si tu es membre des comit*s. Aussi, il y a une copie d'information des benevoles, mais seulement en anglais.

2. 3 spot faces/cibles

There has been some interest in the new version of 3-spot faces: they are linear as opposed to triangular in layout. Since FCA has 16,000 of the regular version, and since the new style is only compulsory if you plan to shoot FITA World Indoor Championships, FCA will not be stocking the new face unless there are 1,000's and 1,000's of orders.

3. Olympic bids

The national sport centre has been inundated with bid books and information regarding the Winter 2010 Games. Quite honestly, I'm more interested in Toronto's bid for 2008 and its success as a summer Games to help our sport. However, Calgary has presented a detailed bid package which would start funnelling money to all Olympic sports (summer, too!) starting in 2003. They have an agreement in writing with the Royal Bank to advance money for the subsequent 7 years based upon confirmed TV contract revenues signed in that year. This would affect FCA in a positive way.

Qu*bec City is the other host site which submitted its bid book this week. However, it's plan is contingent upon federal and provincial government funding to build and host. Whistler's bid book has not arrived yet. That site's bid is also contingent upon government funding.

FCA will be asked to vote on the host city very soon. If you wish to discuss the implications, please contact either Alain Gravel, FCA's voting delegate to the Canadian Olympic Association, or myself.

5. Travelling

Effective Oct. 1/98 all airline carriers require that passengers to US or International destinations must provide their full surname, given name, and middle name or initial. In addition, passengers must also give their passport number (not USA), nationality, date of birth, and the full name and phone number of their next of kin. This is all confidential and used solely for family notification in case of an emergency. This information was sent to us from Algonquin Travel, FCA's agent.
